Techniques including the use of whole bunches, natural yeast and co-fermentation with Roussanne were just the beginning of this wine’s winemaking life. A rich crimson-coloured wine showing coffee and dark chocolate notes on the nose.
From the coveted 2010 vintage, the Artisan Syrah has a palate similar to preserved cherries and sweetly-spiced plums. Fruit, oak and tannin are well integrated, giving this wine a good structure and finish.
"This is where all the ‘playing’ is with Xabregas syrah. Spice driven, slender, ropey tannins, brisk acidity. It’s a wine that drives with firm confidence but also shows gorgeous sweet fruit underlying. Flavours run from red berries, brambles and cherry elixir but there is a meaty, gamey component in the wine. Detailed, gritty and with great length – great tannin profile, youthful and fresh. Very pure too. Some time will mellow and layer further complexity into the wine 92 Points." Mike Bennie
